Before starting my review, I feel it’s absolutely important to warn all viewers of what they are about to see here. The secret video footage taken of the dogs along with the illegal, cruel, and inhumane activities in this kennel is deeply disturbing on many levels and it is very difficult to gaze. I wanted to bellow more than once while watching this program and I’m not shrinking to admit this. The crawl through this documentary is a heartbreaking one but the ending is rewarding and it makes the anxiety worthwhile.

Thousands of dogs are bought by research labs and veterinary schools every year in America. These animals are supplied by `Class A’ dealers (they breed the dogs themselves) and `Class B’ dealers (they grasp dogs from the pound, shelters, and itsy-bitsy breeders) and this latter category are the ones who have been known to regularly violate animal welfare laws meant to protect animals. Class B dealers are licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to consume, house, and sell dogs. The USDA, through the federal Animal Welfare Act, is supposed to ensure the humane treatment of these dogs. Obviously they are failing in their responsibilities as this program clearly demonstrates.

In 2002, a exiguous animal rights organization, Last Chance For Animals, began a 6 month undercover investigation of Martin Creek Kennel in Williford, Arkansas which happened to be America’s most distinguished Class B dog dealer. An investigator, known only as ‘Pete’, successfully infiltrated this kennel as an employee working for the owner C.C. Baird. After 6 months undercover and with over 70 hours of covert footage amassing evidence of hundreds of violations, Pete left the kennel.

After 9 months, the evidence was turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Puny Rock, Arkansas where they began their beget investigation. On August 26, 2003, a joint federal task force raided the Martin Creek Kennel and rescued 125 out of 600 dogs. Justice was agonizingly monotonous in coming. Finally, in January 2005, the USDA settled the civil case. C.C. Baird, his wife, and 2 daughters were charged with over 500 violations of the Animal Welfare Act. His license was permanently revoked to choose and sell animals and he was fined $262,700, the largest sparkling ever imposed under the Animal Welfare Act. However, the U.S. Attorney’s criminal case was unexcited ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Northeast Arkansans For Animals organization took the opportunity to prepare the previously rescued dogs for adoption. This is the most rewarding and satisfying footage of the program as it showed the dogs being loved and cared for. Every animal rescued from Martin Creek Kennel found a fresh home.

Further charges were brought against C.C Baird eight months later. Baird surrendered 700 acres of his land including his home and kennel, all worth 1.1 million dollars. He then surrendered $200,000 and paid $42,400 to animal rescue groups who cared for the animals seized in the 2003 raid. In July of 2006, Baird was sentenced to 3 years supervised probation, 6 months home detention, and fined $7,500.

Looking befriend now, I’m joyful the penalties in this case were so severe yet somehow I don’t feel it was enough. I consider C.C. Baird should have done some serious jail time too but that’s fair my concept. My 5 star rating for this program is dedicated to publicizing the message of out of control dog dealing, the courage and perseverance of Last Chance For Animals, and final justice for the outrageous Martin Creek Kennel.

This was a very difficult inspect for any dog lover. I watched this with my dogs on my lap and by my feet and with tears on my face. I haven’t seen this type of indifference towards life since watching documentaries on concentration camps. It is sorrowful to place it that scheme, but that is who these Arkansas rednecks resemble the most:Nazis. Hell cannot be hot enough in my understanding for these people.

The program is very well done and allows us as the viewers to understand the difficulty that the undercover activist is in. As an undercover informant he has to contemplate(and fraction with us) such cruelty and titanic amounts of unnecessary deaths. If you idea on watching this with children explain, you would probably want to preview it first and observe that it would be a very terrible conception. The hope all throughout the indicate is that the evil-doers will rep punished. They do and they don’t. The fines and losing of ones license (eventually) seem a miniature too worthy like the proverbial slap on the wrist.

The only device I seek someone wanting to peruse this possibly to convince someone about animal rights and cruelties. I don’t peruse this as an entertainment type program, but it does attend to thunder about something that most of the country isn’t aware of, especially my grateful pleased dogs who are unexcited wondering why I shed so many tears.

Just as Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein are the most complex and impressive of all the classic Universal monster movies, Frankenstein The Legacy Collection is the most impressive of the three Legacy Collection DVD sets. Not only do you rep five classic Frankenstein’s monster films, you also are treated to more numerous and indispensable extra features here than in the Dracula and Wolf Man Legacy Collection releases.

It is difficult to compare and difference the different Universal monsters; my personal predilection draws me to Dracula, but I daresay Frankenstein’s monster is the most successful, memorable, and influential of the Dracula – Frankenstein’s monster -Wolf Man triad. The first two Frankenstein films are nothing short of bright (although I aloof regret that they did not truly recreate the monster of Mary Shelley’s imaginative vision), with the sequel, Bride of Frankenstein, actually going one better than the recent. When you believe of Universal’s Dracula, you reflect of Bela Lugosi; when you believe of The Wolf Man, you mediate of Lon Chaney, Jr. When you assume of Frankenstein, however, you consider of Boris Karloff as the monster, Colin Clive as Dr. Frankenstein, Elsa Lanchester as the Bride of Frankenstein, James Whale as the ingenious director, Jack Pierce as the legendary dismay make-up artist, etc. Virtually every last detail of the first two Frankenstein films is perfect, unforgettable, and remarkably complex – the vision, the style of presentation, the iconic performances, the make-up, the special effects, everything. Not even Dracula is as memorable in half as many ways as both Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein are.

Little more need be said of the first two Frankenstein films; they are the best of the Universal classics, and their complexity and appeal form them more unbelievable and impressive with each day that passes. But what of the other three films included here? Well, Frankenstein isn’t what he musty to be under Whale’s direction. A lot of people seem to like Son of Frankenstein, but I witness this is as the beginning of the immense, tiring, Frankenstein’s monster stereotype that has stripped the monster of well-liked culture of the innocence and mountainous human pathos that defined him early on. The film is most essential for being Karloff’s last performance in the role he made his acquire, as the tremendous alarm actor wisely wished to have no section in the now-inevitable dumbing-down of the monster. Featuring Basil Rathbone as Baron Wolf von Frankenstein, Bela Lugosi as Ygor, the broken-necked madman who befriends and to some degree controls the monster, and Lionel Atwill as the show-stealing Inspector Krogh, Son of Frankenstein robs the creature of his ability to inform and thus denies him the consuming vestige of humanity bestowed upon him in the unsurpassed Bride of Frankenstein.

The Ghost of Frankenstein continues the epic begun in Son of Frankenstein, this time introducing yet another Frankenstein son in the manufacture of Dr. Ludwig Frankenstein (played most engagingly by Sir Cedric Hardwick) . Incredibly, both Ygor (Lugosi) and the monster (now played by Lon Chaney, Jr.) survived the raze of the previous film, and the pair site out to acquire yet another son of Frankenstein in hopes of restoring the monster’s strength (long baths in boiling sulphur followed by radical ice therapy can gain a monster down) . Not surprisingly, the monster stirs up a itsy-bitsy disaster in town, and Ludwig’s attempt to undo his father’s crucial mistake by replacing the monster’s brain with a solid, non-criminal brain ultimately goes awry, thanks to Ygor and Ludwig’s traitorous assistant Dr. Bohmer (Lionel Atwill) . I actually found Ghost of Frankenstein to be a major improvement on the Son of Frankenstein storyline, although most fans seem to seize Son of Frankenstein over this film.

House of Frankenstein boasts all three of the Universal monster heavyweights: Frankenstein’s monster (now played by Glenn Uncommon), the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney, Jr.), and Count Dracula (played by John Carradine – the world’s worst Dracula) . It also features Boris Karloff in the role of the angry scientist who causes all sorts of concern. A sequel of sorts to Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, House of Frankenstein is a major disappointment in my eyes; only the Wolf Man character gets a decent treatment in this fun but rather insignificant film.

The extras in this collection are astonishing. For starters, you secure theatrical trailers for all the films except Son of Frankenstein, poster and photo galleries for Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, and a discussion by Van Helsing director Stephen Sommers of the pervading influence of Universal’s Frankenstein’s monster in the scare movie industry. Frankenstein comes with a commentary by film historian Rudy Behlmer, while Bride of Frankenstein features commentary by film historian Scott MacQueen (one of the best commentaries I’ve heard) . Then there are two essential feature documentaries: The Frankenstein Files: How Hollywood Made a Monster looks succor through the history of the Universal Frankenstein movies, while She’s Alive! Creating the Bride of Frankenstein examines the making of Bride of Frankenstein. Both of these features include fantastic interviews with the daughter of Boris Karloff and the son of Dwight Frye. Finally, there is a short film called Boo! I was clueless as to what this could be, and I am detached unsure of its origins, but it is basically a slightly silly petite film featuring footage from Nosferatu, Frankenstein, and at least one other film.

This collection is not perfect (beware in particular a hazardous tiny bump in the casing beneath each DVD, as each one is fair dying for the chance to scratch a disc) . Quiet, considering how worthy material is included here, the Frankenstein Legacy Collection DVD residence is a bargain that all Frankenstein fans would do well to snatch up. Of course, if you are eager in Dracula and the Wolf Man as well as Frankenstein’s monster, leer into getting the all-inclusive Monster Legacy Collection.

I’ve been posting my film reviews on IMDb (Internet Movie Database), so if you’re sharp of my opinions on the swear, glimpse what I have to say there. I unprejudiced wanted to write this to give you a warning about buying the DVDs: There’s a sterling chance that you’ll have to exchange your bewitch, even multiple times.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Frankenstein – The Legacy Collection! Click Here

As others have renowned, there are two discs. One single sided that tends not to have any problems (Frankenstein and Bride are on that one), and the other double sided that tends to reach lose during shipping and become scratched (it contains Son, Ghost, House and the bulk of the extras) .

So far, I’ve gone through five copies of the spot and I have yet to derive one that works for all of the films. And the quandary doesn’t seem to unprejudiced be scratches. The fourth copy I received didn’t have a scratch on it, but Ghost of Frankenstein tranquil got stuck at about the 35 limited price. There seems to be a manufacturing scrape with the discs. So I’m not convinced that the scratches are causing the scrape. After all, I’ve bought other titles as ragged DVDs from my local rental position that search for like a truck drove over them on a gravel road, and they played shapely.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Frankenstein – The Legacy Collection! Click Here

I initially bought the box status containing the Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolf Man Legacy collections, and each one had at least one film that was marred. I’ve received the second copies of Dracula and the Wolf Man, but I haven’t watched all of the films in them again yet; there’s a helpful chance the second copies will have glitches there, too, since the packaging/manufacturing is identical, as it also is on Universal’s Mummy, Creature from the Dark Lagoon and Invisible Man Legacy Collections. I recently bought my first sets of those three, as well, but I haven’t watched any of them yet. I’m almost shrinking too. At this point, I tend to peek the films with a nervous anticipation akin to checking yourself for a tumor, and you hold finding one. Not exactly an luscious experience, even though I fancy the films.

You’d judge by now I’d learn and wouldn’t even be bothering–after at least 7 terrible sets (the five Frankensteins and the one Dracula and Wolf Man) but I want these films on DVD! I unprejudiced want a copy that works!

Last time Universal released them (the behind 1990s or early 2000s) they were only on the market for 18 months before they pulled the inch. I didn’t occupy them then, and I regretted it. They pulled the skedaddle to eventually release these more budget-priced but cheaply made replacements that won’t work! I would have gladly spent twice the amount or more for these films if I could unprejudiced have DVDs that don’t derive stuck.

I’m far from the only one experiencing this quandary, and for some others who haven’t well-known the scrape yet, I’m wondering if they tried watching all of the films–wait until a year down the road or so when they finally contemplate, “Let’s give House of Frankenstein a chance” and then stare that it gets stuck. With the amount of returns Universal must be getting, it seems like maybe they’d revamp the packaging/manufacturing as soon as possible. They must be losing money on these, or conclude to it. Maybe by my 50th time returning Frankenstein, I’ll gain one with recent packaging that isn’t flawed.

I unbiased saw this film today (after missing out on a sold out sneak preview last weekend) and the increased level of expectation was met with one of the most rewarding moviegoing experiences I’ve had in the last five years. Monster House gives us one doozy of a spooky antagonist, a decrepit domicile of living malice that gobbles errant toys and passerby with equal ingenuity and viciousness.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Monster House! Click Here

The house is tiresome archaic MEAN, and for really slight children perhaps a miniature too scary to lift in a expansive room filled with strangers and darkness. But for those of us who are too grown up for a nighlight this is perfect, creepy entertainment.

The same motion assume technology mature to invent The Polar Issue (a film which I have mild yet to peek) is a very lively and appropriate choice for this film, where the only truly incredible element is the demented house that will not suffer trespassers. It works so well because the eerie realism that depicts the characters is so starkly contrasted with the insanity that ultimately drives the Monster House to be, well, so grisly.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Monster House! Click Here

Now I fully expected to be entertained by the antics of the house, but I didn’t interrogate there to be grand of a record. Again I was pleasantly surprised by what I assume is a script that I beget is honest as superior of an Oscar nomination as the script for The Incredibles was. There is, beneath the floorboards of this film, more heart than fear. A legend of esteem, retribution, acceptance, forgiveness, and ultimately letting go.

Monster House is, beyond a doubt, one of the coolest Terror movies for kids ever made. A Halloween tradition in the making that dares to acknowledge that age primitive question: Can a house be horrified?

The retort is a resounding yes with a disquieting post script.

Whatever is disturbed may also be hungry!

Monster House uses the same motion-capture technology as Zemeckis’ Polar Sigh but takes it to the next level. This time around, the whole context of the movie will appeal to a wider audience so this is a ample opportunity to indicate the possibilities that this all digital technology offers.

Beyond the technical achievement, Monsterhouse is an profitable surprise for its family-oriented audience. Unlike Dreamworks and their Shrek-ish, below-the-belt, cynically adult-oriented features, this movie aims at both the kids and grown-ups in a diagram that tends to unite them around its subject, rather than addressing the two categories separately and alternatively.

To kids, this will be their first experience of an true fear flick: the house IS seriously apprehensive and this is definitly no Casper-like curse. Lives are at stake here and the line between obedient and improper is not so strictly defined.

Some aspects of the residence have a very macabre touch, unruffled a bittersweet feeling comes in balance towards the slay.

A precise implication is required from the kids, especially because a few thrills awaits them once the house has awaken.

On the parents’ side, besides the fact that for those like me who grew up with the Amblin productions of the eighties (The Goonies, The Gremlins and co), you are in for a broad back-to-the-future nostalgic trot. Not only because the action takes status in the 80’s (various hints lead to acquire it) but because the whole atmosphere, the characters, the humour will either produce you wish you could tranquil be 5 to 10 years passe to fully dive into this nightmarish anecdote, or simply will obtain you forget you’ve grown older and form you actually feel like you’re a kid again.

So thank you Mr Zemeckis and Mr Spielberg for producing this puny gem, which, though it draws its inspiration from a classic tradition of disturbed mansion archetypes, never fails to win its gain identity and energy.

In a nutshell: mammoth style and screenplay, technically impressive and very concerned about offering a satisfying demonstrate to the audience.

The summer of 1940 in Martinique as people began to settle sides is the setting for another Howard Hawks masterpiece. William Faulkner, who had adapted Raymond Chandler’s complex unique for the director’s other Bogart mask classic, “The Great Sleep,” expanded a thin Hemingway sage with writing partner Jules Furthman into another. This is sort of “Casablanca” with grit rather than gloss, and is objective as toothsome. “To Have and Have Not” does, in fact, outshine that film with its upbeat ending, and marks the loyal disagreement between the two films, despite their similarities.

Buy,Download, Or Stream To Have and Have Not! Click Here

Bogart is Harry Morgan, trying to conclude neutral about the local politics while he and his pal Eddie (Walter Brennan) seize tourists ocean fishing in the waters of Martinique. His pal Frenchy (Marcel Dalio) wants him to exhaust his boat to win up a couple that will keep him square in the middle of all that’s going on both in Martinique and the rest of the world as the Germans form their fade across the globe.

Morgan is fending off getting enthusiastic honest heavenly until his latest fishing customer gets knocked off by accident before he can pay up. Complicating things further for Morgan is a newcomer named Marie Browning (Lauren Bacall) who sort of attaches herself to him from the moment they meet. She has approach from Brazil by plan of Trinidad and ends up in Martinique only because she doesn’t have money to go any further. They seem a perfect fit despite all the sparring between them; a point driven home by her response to Eddie’s inquire of about bees. The viewer knows at that moment that she and Harry are a match made in Hollywood heaven.

Buy,Download, Or Stream To Have and Have Not! Click Here

Brennan is objective terrific as Harry’s passe pal in constant need of a drink to support the shakes at bay. He thinks he’s looking after Harry when in fact it’s Harry who’s looking after him. The trademark male world of Howard Hawks is worthy in evidence here, as Bogart’s autonomy begins to crack only when he finds his match in Bacall. Like many of Hawks’ characters, Morgan lives by his contain code and his bear rules, and only breaks them out of loyalty to someone else. Another Hawks trademark of the sizing up of people from the inside out is also distinguished in evidence here. Bogart and Bacall never even explain the other’s name in this film: she calls him “Steve” and he refers to her as “Slim” throughout the entire film.

When Harry finally agrees to engage up Frenchy’s pals in the Resistance to net enough money to find Slim home, he gets more than he bargained for in more ways than one. It convinces Slim to halt on because she now knows for clear that “Steve” is the true guy. She gets a job singing for the piano player at the Hotel Martinique, Cricket (Hoagy Charmichael) . And after a patrol boat takes a potshot at one of his passengers, his very pretty wife begins to warm up to Harry in a tall accelerate, causing a bit of jealousy on Slim’s portion. Doloros Moran is very nice and quite fine as that wife, Hellene de Bursac.

There are a ton of huge exchanges between Bacall and Bogart here, the most renowned being the “objective whistle” scene. There are many others equally as beneficial, however, including an exchange about strings that has Bacall walking around Bogart, and a big line from Bacall about walking home if it weren’t for all that water. It is this latter exchange, and one other about Slim’s lack of a reaction when being slapped that Hawks uses to highlight the personal baggage both Harry and Marie are bringing to the table.

A young Bacall looks exquisite in gowns by Milo Anderson, and Sid Hickox’s photography gives the film a accurate feel of a minute island with palm trees lining the streets. Bogart’s Harry will eventually remove in the fight when he decides he likes the people on one side and doesn’t like the people on the other side. It is very noteworthy both a Hawks and Bogart type moment, the personal suitable code of the anti-hero coming fully into play.

This is a fun film with ample characters, lots of atmosphere, and an ending the polar opposite of “Casablanca.” The song “How Petite We Know” from Hoagy Charmichael and Johnny Mercer never amounted to worthy compared to the more distinguished “As Time Goes By” from “Casablanca,” but works nicely with the mood Hawks created for his second film with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. If you’re looking for a stout dose of Bogie and Bacall, and want the kind of ending “Casablanca” didn’t have, then “To Have and Have Not” is a positive bet to please you. A glorious film and a moral mask classic.

Watching this movie can give you the vapors. Ye gods, has anyone’s substantial mask debut been as sizzling as that of the 19-year-old Lauren Bacall’s? Even 60 years later, Bacall’s sensual presence absolutely smolders on the cloak. While this is not the most spellbinding Bogart performance one is likely to consider of, he is nonetheless curious to eye in this film. As the film progresses, it is unmistakeable that he is absolutely Twisted by his co-star.

Buy,Download, Or Stream To Have and Have Not! Click Here

The storyline itself is a outmoded thriller for its time, although it has the distinction of being the product of two of the greatest American writers, Hemingway & Faulkner. Not that they would have seen mighty merit in that — Hemingway had a lukewarm attitude towards this work, and Faulkner hated every petite he spent in Hollywood, prostituting his talent (as he saw it) .

This movie is not on a dramatic par with “Casablanca” or “The Maltese Falcon,” and the subsequent Bogart-Bacall “Key Largo” has far more suspense & tension within it. However, none of these films can equal “To Have and Have Not” for on-screen chemistry, and there is indeed something to be said for that. In fact, I would be hard-pressed to arrive up with a film that surpasses “To Have and Have Not” in terms of chemistry, and that should be enough for anyone to think this a classic.

What do you do when you’re a workaholic 68-year-old director, and your doctor orders you to win a vacation? Well, if you are John Ford, you grab John Wayne and your ‘Stock Company’ of actors, jaunt off to Kauai, the “Flower Isle” of Hawaii, and get “Donovan’s Reef”, a former, brawling comedy! While the film was certainly not ‘top-drawer’ for either the director or star, it is a sterling diversion, and would heed the final ‘film’ teaming of the legendary pair.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Donovan’s Reef! Click Here

“Donovan’s Reef”, equal parts “South Pacific”, “Hawaii”, “What Label Glory? “, and “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon”, was already ‘nostalgic’, by the time it was made, as so many actors who would have been Ford ‘naturals’ in key roles had passed away, or were too venerable to play the characters believably. Thus you have Lee Marvin instead of Victor McLaglen, Jack Warden in a ‘Ward Bond’ role, and Elizabeth Allen in a portion ‘tailor-made’ for a younger Maureen O’Hara. Even Wayne, himself, at 56, seems a bit ‘long-in-the-tooth’ for the physical demands of his role (captivating the 32-year-old Allen in a swimming speed? ), as well as the romance (a fact that even the Duke would agree with; this would note the last time he would play a romantic lead, ‘winning’ an actress so worthy younger) . Also, brilliant that in less than two years Wayne would lose a lung to cancer, one winces at the number of cigarettes he lights up, throughout the film. “Donovan’s Reef” was certainly geared to an earlier time and sensibility.

All this being said, if you can leave 21st century wisdom about tobacco and alcohol abuse “at the door”, the film is a treat, with postcard images of Hawaii, Lee Marvin, an ‘over-the-top’ joy as Wayne’s drunken buddy/adversary (tuning up for his Oscar-winning role in “Cat Ballou”), hilarious benefit from Cesar Romero as the lecherous Governor/General, and Dorothy Lamour (who’d starred in Ford’s classic South Seas adventure, “The Hurricane”), as a husband-hungry chanteuse, and, in memorable bit roles, Duke’s son, Patrick, Edgar Buchanan, Dick Foran, and Mike Mazurki.

I truly wish there WERE a “Donovan’s Reef” in our world…it’s the kind of situation where I’d want to live!

There are days when things unbiased don’t go legal. Business doesn’t hit on all cylinders, or something in one’s personal life is out of alignment. Irritation can site in. Frustration. Unprejudiced monotonous broken-down down-in-the-dumps mopeyness.

There ARE things that can be done about this, especially if you have a VHS or DVD player. You can pop in any number of righteous movies and consume your scene selector to accumulate you to that “special fraction” that unbiased warms your heart and chases your blues away.

You can seek the destroy of “Shenandoah” from the point where Jimmy Stewart goes to the family cemetery to talk to his wife Martha, on through to the arrival of “the boy” in the middle of Sunday preaching. Or you can contemplate James Cagney as George M. Cohan gather his Medal of Honor from FDR in “Yankee Doodle Dandy”, tap dance down the White House steps and join in the troop parade down Pennsylvania Avenue singing “Over There”. Or you can scene-select to the Von Trapp family singing “Edelweiss” as a farewell appearance at the Salzburg Music Festival in “The Sound of Music” and then follow them across the alps into Switzerland at the finish to that sparkling film. OR, if the season is good, you can rapidly jump to the Columbia Inn in Pine Tree, Vermont, in time to search for retired General “Tom Waverly”(Dean Jagger) gain sandbagged by Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and company at the surprise reunion of the “151st Division” at the destroy of “White Christmas”.

OR…you can sprint in “Donovans Reef” and honest sit assist and LET THE WHOLE THING ROLL!!!!! Because from the first moment of the opening credits, when the luscious, infectious musical rendition of “Pupa O Ewa” (“Pearly Shells”) cranks up…until the very demolish of the film…when “Pupa O Ewa” is cranking again…you can unbiased leave your “doldrums” slow.

A “downer” mentality cannot stand up to “Donovan’s Reef” for long.

This 1963 “swan song” for the collaborative filmmaking team of John Ford and John Wayne is one of the most toothsome light comedies ever establish to film. There are many movie aficionadoes who adore Grant & Hepburn in “Bringing Up Baby”, Hepburn & Tracy in “Adam’s Rib” and such, and you can’t “diss” classics like “Some Like It Hot” and numerous Doris Day vehicles. But me, I say “Donovan’s Reef” belongs up there with the best of them.

There’s not a lot of quick repartee here, but that doesn’t matter. Neither does the fact that it seems almost a case of “Let’s originate this up as we go along” moviemaking. “Hmmmm. This is a Paramount Portray”, situation in the South Pacific…Hey!!!…let’s come by Dorothy Lamour for it!!!!!”. However it was conceived and place together…IT WORKS!!

It is a enormous, boozy, knuckleheaded comedy that works because it has really proper actors in it, having a really superb time, turning out a tale chunky of heart…all under the guidance of one of Hollywood’s greatest directors.

John Wayne is Michael “Guns’ Donovan, bar owner of “Donovan’s Reef”…a location Jimmy Buffet would surely like to visit. Lee Marvin is Donovan’s obsolete war buddy “Boats” Gilhooly, who is his rival in “most everything”. They fight a lot, especially since they section the same birthday and neither likes to portion. Some of the staged “altercations” between them smack of Wayne vs. McGlaglen in “The Composed Man”. Jack Warden is the local missionary doctor, a widower twice over, who has three children by a polynesian wife (royalty), and one older daughter from his first marraige in America.

Island frivolities collect sidetracked when word comes that the older daughter (a “reliable Bostonian”) is coming to peep her father

(on a covert investigatory mission to inspect if a will can be broken) . Suspecting this daughter, Amelia (Elizabeth Allen), might be a racist who might hurtfully interact with her mixed hurry siblings, Wayne & company stage a “switcheroo” con on Ms. Dedham from Boston…one which represents the Duke (“Guns”) as their father and not “The Doc”.

The course of the film is about establishing the con and then maintaining it. They fail in this, but it turns out not to matter. Amelia is not entirely the prig they purchase her to be…and by the kill of the movie she is no prig at all.

This is a fun movie to gape and experience. The cast is uniformly mountainous. Cesar Romero is a hoot as the French colonial governor, as is John Fong as his assistant. Mike Mazurki is silly as a local gendarme and Marcel Dalio evokes his have piece of chuckles as the island priest. The children are played quite well by Jacqueline Malouf, Cherylene Lee, and Tim Stafford. Jacqueline Malouf, in particular, is appealingly winsome as Leilani, the eldest of the three island children and the heir to her mother’s throne. A scene approach the ruin of the film where Amelia realizes Leilani is her sister and overturns “the con” is absolutely…exhiliratingly…heart warming.

Is this a feel-good movie? You betcha. A “South Seas” area of mind caught on quite strongly in the early 1960s. This trend had three basic points of origin…the play and film version of “South Pacific”, a very current television series called “Adventures In Paradise”, and respectable former “Donovan’s Reef”.

Three respectable deals, all the procedure around.

As for Duke’s slay of the deal, this DVD edition of “Reef” is fair gorgeous. The sound is proper, as is the image transfer. The colors of Hawaii near out gloriously in this…as one would put a question to when the lens work was done by William Clothier, one of the greatest of all Hollywood cinematographers. And Cyril Mockridge’s musical scoring is sublime, especially his choice to feature “Pupa O Ewa” extensively in the movie. That song gets under your skin and STAYS there…and will often reach befriend to stick in your mind when you are nowhere arrive a television state or DVD player.

“Donovan’s Reef” …or “Gilhooly’s Reef”…makes no nevermind to me. I treasure it impartial the same. Thanks Duke, and thanks Mr. Ford.

We owe you.

Early Edition was one of the most spellbinding and spellbinding hours on television during its hurry and after picking up season one, it’s nice to study the second season of this extraordinary expose coming out. The characters were likable, and all too human at times, making them even more likable. Kyle Chandler proved the perfect choice as a regular guy with foibles who at first tries to cash in like any of us would on his top-notch fortune, then realizes the substantial responsibility which has been laid at his door, quite literally.

Gary Hobson (Kyle Chandler) has been kicked out by his wife and forced to rep a hotel. A yellow cat accompanies a newspaper which Gary eventually discovers is quite special. It is tomorrow’s news today, and day after day it is delivered to Gary’s door. He reacts as most of us would at first but his expedient nature finally takes over and he realizes there is a reason he’s been chosen to receive the paper.

What followed each week was incredible. One week it was laughable and the next heartbreaking. Shanesia Williams was terrific as his blind pal Marissa, who tried to support him grounded and lead him towards the moral path when the direction seemed unclear. Fisher Stevens was perfectly cast as his pal Chuck, who wanted to select advantage of Gary’s windfall but often ended up helping him instead because deep down he was a first-rate guy. It was sort of like Rockford and Angel, impartial less pronounced. At least in season one.

What helped to manufacture the indicate special was the Chicago atmosphere and some tightly written shows about ravishing choices made from the heart, some of which had grave consequences. The apt dilemmas continued, as in Quality of Mercy. In this episode, Gary saves someone, only to read the “next” paper, and study that person is now going to slay someone innocent. There was always so mighty day to day chop of life humor in this present that you bonded with the characters in a scheme we don’t anymore. The drama was human also, particularly so in The Medal, where a Vietnam Vet is racked with guilt.

The affection the writers had for classic movies came across to a expansive degree in season two. In Romancing the Throne, a Princess from Morania takes a smash from her duties with Gary and helps attach a couple of lives. It is obviously an homage to Roman Holiday. Where or When takes a page from Hitchcock’s Rear Window, as Gary is laid up with a broken leg, and becomes tangled up with what may be a 50 year mature kill fair across the diagram. A Bris is Unprejudiced a Bris is an positive nod to A Kiss is Fair a Kiss from Casablanca, even if the humorous story-line where Chuck starts telling the truth (gulp) and Gary gets tangled up with a klutzy librarian have diminutive in well-liked with the classic film. Anyone who’s seen In Frail Chicago with Tyrone Power and Alice faye will be pleased Hot Time in the Traditional Town, in which Gary wakes up two days before the colossal Chicago fire after a bump on the head!

The show’s characters and their interactions had a very dependable feel and each present had its fragment of shapely moments. Often mixed with humor, but sometimes quite poignant in the ruin, each week was special. From behind September of 1997 to behind May of 1998 fans of this point to relished the hour spent each week with Gary and his pals.

Season two episodes include: Home–The Medal–The Wedding–Jenny Sloan–Down Sized–Angels and Devils–Redfellas–March in Time–A Regular Joe–A Bris is Unbiased a Bris–A Minor Miracle–Romancing the Throne–Walk, Don’t Run–Return of Crumb–Mum’s the Word–When and Where–The Fourth Carpathian–The Quality of Mercy–Show Me the Monet–Don’t Roam Away Renee-Hot Time in the Customary Town–Second Sight

Having purchased season one for someone I adore I’m cheerful season two is now on its procedure. Early Edition truly stands out as something of quality. Gary and his friends, and that mysterious yellow cat, were welcome visitors each week and this is another extraordinary release for the show’s many fans.

This season is arguably better than Season One in the sense that the characters have been established and the writers were able to focus more on the episodes without having to disaster about backgrounds, the “how” and “why” of the paper, etc. But as many after me will probably say, all four seasons were superb and we’re looking forward to the last two seasons being released in the coming year or so.

After two to three years of letting the license for this anime sit on the shelf, ADV Films has finally decided to reenact this anime for US commerical release!

Generally, a person would not behold an anime like Burn-Up Excess for any sort of educational value whatsoever. It does not have heart-wrenching drama or a fair myth that makes you sit up and say “Wow!” Rather, a person would peep this if you needed something to laugh at. And Burn Up Excess provides lots to laugh about.

Enter Rio, the foremost character of Burn Up Excess (and the one you explore on the front screen.) She’s broke, she overspends, and her answering machine is loaded with messages from various bill collectors. To pay all this, she works at Policetown HQ. However, what’s special about her (or her job, at least) is that she belongs to Team Warrior.

Team Warrior is a miniature elite crime squad that serves as a police special operations unit. Along with Rio in this unit are Maya, a green haired gun maniac, Yuji, a driver/pilot of all vehicles and part-time pervert, Nanvel, the mechanical genius, Lilica, the hyper computer hacker, and Maki, their boss, who is always cold and detached. Together, they face off against the many terrorist who would dare to remove on the law, or Maya’s substantial gun, or Rio’s special-issue police baton, whichever is convenient.

Ladies might not be as appreciative of this series as most gentlemen would be. This series is absolutely loaded with “fan service,” or raw appeal for men. There is grand suggested nudity (nothing concrete), as well as four of the five Warrior ladies have astronomical chest that will definitely lead to wait on strain later in their lives. Added to this is ADV Film’s patented Jiggle Counter, an extra that can be site to point to how many times the breasts of the Warrior ladies bounce during the DVD. This point to was obviously created with the male fan in mind.

So, if you feel you are in need of some laughs, then buy up this current comedy/action anime, as there’s a lot of fighting and loads of humor to be served up!

By far the most luscious incarnation of Burn Up. If you were let down by the amazingly awful wrap up of the Burn Up W series, don’t jumpy away from Excess. No previous knowledge of the Burn Up universe is required, but it certainly doesn’t harm. The storyline from Burn Up W continues into Excess, but– again, no previous knowledge is required.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Burn Up Excess – To Serve and Protect! Click Here

The animation is top-notch. Flawless. Spectacular direction and execution. Character designs have been tweaked and the series has a distinguished more “serious” feel to it. If you mediate you’ll miss the droll humor of the Burn Up W episodes, you may want to try before you select.

As for the rest of us… Excess is dead-on. A very strong dwelling of episodes. Extras are solid. The Jiggle Counter is not always fair, but we could argue all day. ;)

Oh yeah, and if you like fan service, you honest can’t go substandard!

“Jurassic Park III” attempts to pull a current twist on the source material of the first film, taking us to a unusual status where recent dinosaurs will soon be wreaking havoc on human kind. Does it work? Completely! Combining some very effective action sequences with some of the bets humor for a movie of this genre, “JP3″ is a thrill machine that doesn’t report itself as anything more or less. One might sneer at the drawn-out franchise, but there’s no denying how worthy fun this film can be on many levels.

The movie brings succor the novel character of Alan Grant (Sam Neill), who is now a college professor of paleontology. He hopes that his unique theory of raptor intelligence will inspire his students as well as find some funds for his research, though his students seem more involved in his experiences at Jurassic Park so many years ago, experiences he would rather build unhurried him than rehash to the world.

That is, until Paul and Amanda Kirby (William H. Macy, Tea Leoni) advance calling, with the promise of those needed research funds in exchange for Grant coming along with them to the island of Isla Sorna, the second island where the action of “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” took plot. Posing as tourists with a taste for adventure, their upright intent is to locate their lost son, who they enjoy to be located on the island after a boating accident eight weeks earlier.

Once Grant finds out their factual intentions, he demands that the mission be aborted, but soon, their plane crashes on the island, leaving them stranded among the carnivorous creatures, who are hasty to open scaring the hell out of their recent prey. Along with some unusual and quite unsafe dinosaurs, the velociraptors exhibit Grant’s theory of raptor intelligence fair, though I’m distinct he was none too thrilled about being apt when he finds himself surrounded by them.

Like the first “Jurassic Park,” “JP3″ brings on its part of action sequences and suspenseful moments, which are a sheer delight for those who savor a agreeable jolt. I was sitting up in my seat after the plane rupture, as the never-before-seen spinosaurus tosses the wreckage around like a child’s toy. A fight between the spinosaurus and a tyrannosaurus rex is charged with intensity, and the group’s fight to stop alive is made all-the-more though-provoking by a high quotient of prehistoric predators.

The film also explores what “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” merely conceived in words. The whole basis for that film was the creation of prehistoric life on the second island, and this movie takes us to the many sites of that creation, as well as showing us their attempts to beget that life in cages. One of those settings is a bird-cage, where pteranodons retrieve their prey for their young. The compound where our group finds temporary refuge recalls that of “Jurassic Park,” where the chronicle all began.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Jurassic Park III! Click Here

Combined with the action is a heavy load of droll relief, lying within some very witty dialogue and situational humor, lightening the impact of scenes that would otherwise be too intense for younger audiences. Even so, this humor is a delight for all ages. At one point, Grant gives the group an ultimatum, to either search for their missing son or follow him, to which the pilot soon after replies, “We’ll search for your son, in the direction he’s going.” Another region finds them looking for a cell phone in a gigantic pile of dino droppings, possibly one of the funniest scenes in a movie yet.

The cast seems to be having fun with the film. Sam Neill is as edifying as current in his reprisal of the role of Alan Grant, the same wit and intelligence pouring from him with ease. William H. Macy makes for a lot of suited laughs as the cumbersome Paul, And Tea Leoni plays a well-mannered damsel in harm as his wife. Grant’s protégé, Billy, is played by Allesandro Nivola, and after this film, we can ask to be seeing more of him in the future.

The summer season is a time when movie studios bombard audiences with films elephantine of action and humor, with slight care for place or substance. Surprisingly enough, “Jurassic Park III” surpasses any negative expectations you may have (maintain me, I had my bear) . Director Joe Johnston may be no Speilberg, but his latest film beats out some very stiff competition, from “The Mummy Returns” to “Pearl Harbor,” to become the best summer movie of the year!

It would be nearly impossible to trump the first Jurassic Park film. People were blown away by that movie. The technology was cutting edge and the premise was nearly magical in its element of fantasy. Making a third installment to the series presents an distinct challenge. How do you uphold the level of entertainment plot by the first two films? The answer: novel dinosaurs…

Buy,Download, Or Stream Jurassic Park III! Click Here

In this film, we score the addition of a few unique dinos. The Spinosaur, being even bigger and badder than the T-Rex, is the “guy on the block” now. Flying pteranodons are introduced on Isla Sorna, where they were once housed in a vast cage, now left to patrol the skies freely. The Velociraptors have also gotten an upgrade. They sight a bit more menacing than the Raptors from the novel Jurassic Park. These unique additions are what develop this film what it is.

The first film was dwelling on lush pastures of modeled prehistoric land. The setting for this film is far more delapidated. This is the land the dinosaur rules. The premise of the film is a bit cheesy, but you barely peep, given the fantastic production and spectacle of the film. Once on the island, all you experience is the thrill of the search and the creep. The fact that a divorced couple are searching for their wayward child becomes secondary to the dinosaur action that ensues once they near.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Jurassic Park III! Click Here

I knew I would bask in this movie simply because I esteem the view of Jurassic Park, yet I was pleasantly surprised by fair how worthy it turned out to be.

The DVD is bursting with bonus material. It would retract hours to procure through it all – but it’s well worth it. There’s an extensive “Making of..” featurette, a “Unique Dinosaurs” featurette, a tour of the studio in which the dinosaurs were conceived and brought to life, storyboards, DVD-rom options, etc… The Special Edition certainly does the process of the movie justice, providing deep insight into the production.

Highly recommended.

Short Circuit is one of those movies that when it came out in 1985 I remembered walking out thinking what a fun film that was. Alley Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg were a colossal conceal team. And modern of Saturday Night Fever ad Wargames, director John Badham really showed the compassionate side of humanity. This is a warm and safe family film for everyone.

The dwelling is simple – aren’t they all? The military develops a diagram meant for war and `first strike’ and decides to remove it to the officials of the government for funding. Five very original and laser-powered robots are built. Something happens to one of them, “Number 5″, during the demonstration where an electrical storm creates an electrical surge and trim jolts Number 5. Guess what? He comes alive! Complete with a personality and a microscopic amount charm. He escapes (accidentally) and befriends an animal activist Stephanie (Sheedy) while Newton (Guttenberg) is assigned to sail him down and net him attend.

Now add the adversary of the military trying to slay him and you’ve got a expansive waddle movie. Filled with laughs, bits, gags and a few scene stealing lines, this movie makes you enjoy that Number 5 IS alive! Some expansive supporting character roles and a lot of technically puppetry that would effect even George Lucas jealous – the energy in this movie is grand.

The DVD extras include a commentary with the director and writers as well as the modern 1985 interviews with cast and crew. This is definitely a fun family film and something everyone who likes science fiction and fantasy mixed together will luxuriate in this a lot!

“Short Circuit” is one of those motion pictures that I devour viewing so worthy about a Nova Robotics Robot named Number 5, struck by a power surge of lightning and giving him life. He suddenly escapes with a malfunction and searches for “imput”. Later, he befriends a young woman named Stephanie Speck (Ally Sheedy) who gives him imput about life including animals, laughter from the Three Stooges on TV and even death (or in Number 5’s case, “disassembled.”) He then learns that Nova and the team want Number 5 destroyed and makes a smash for it through the roads of Oregon. Steve Guttenberg plays a creator of the Nova robots when he and his friend Ben Jabituya (Fisher Stevens) stare for the robot first before Howard (Austin Pendleton) and Skroeder (G.W. Bailey) does and kill him. The reveal stealer is Number 5 (voiced by Tim Blaney.) The comedy Number 5 shows in “Short Circuit” will please kids as well as adults with hilarious and touching moments at times. Seek for outstanding filming throughout Oregon that in my understanding is almost like driving through Arizona. TriStar Pictures, Inc./PSO Presentations, 1986, Rated PG for language and some violence.
